Must Read: Wizkid Wore Michael Jackson’s Clothes At His Recent Concert | Vibes On Heat

Many are still in awe following all that happened at popular Nigerian musician Wizkid’s recent concert in Lagos. We had earlier reported that Wizkid surprised many after he brought out his rival Davido and they performed together on stage.

He went further by signing an upcoming artist named Ahmed to his record label Starboy and he also promised to give him N10million for his development.

Something surprising has emerged about the concert. The shirt Wizkid wore bears a close resemblance to what late iconic musician Michael Jackson wore in the video for his song Rock With You. That video was released in 1979. How nice of Wizkid to pay homage in such a cool way.

News:Patience Jonathan’s $15m: EFCC urges court to ignore firms | Vibes On Heat

Related image

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to refuse an application by four companies praying to reverse their guilty plea to laundering $15,591,700 . In its counter-affidavit deposed to by an investigating officer Musbhau Yahaya, the commission said the application was an abuse of court process, and that the judge cannot be asked to overrule himself.

The companies are praying for an order setting aside their conviction by Justice Babs Kuewumi on November 2, 2016 after they pleaded guilty through their representatives.
According to them, their trial and conviction were done “in gross violation of their right to fair hearing”. The companies, in the application filed on their behalf by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), said their conviction “occasioned miscarriage of justice” to them. EFCC, in the counter-affidavit, alleged that a former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to President Jonathan, Waripamo Dudafa, allegedly got part of the money from former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki. EFCC said Dasuki withdrew the money from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and “handed it” over to Dudafa. The commissioner said Dudafa laundered the money through the companies. He is currently being tried along with a lawyer Amajuoyi Briggs and a banker Adedamola Bolodeoku.

They pleaded not guilty. But, the four companies charged along with them pleaded guilty to money laundering charges and were convicted. They are Pluto Properties and Investment Company Limited, Seagate Property Development and Investment Ltd, Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Ltd and Avalon Global Property Development Company Ltd. Wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience, in a separate suit, is laying claims to the money. On what led to the companies’ conviction, Yahaya said sometime in 2015, the EFCC received “cogent and irresistible” intelligence that Dudafa allegedly “warehoused” proceeds of unlawful activities in the companies’ Skye Bank Plc accounts. The operative said EFCC analysed the intelligence and discovered that on November 26, 2014, former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki applied to the Governor of Central of Nigeria (CBN) via a letter dated November 26, 2014 with reference number NSA/366/S for the release of $47,000,000.00.

The operative said the money was part of N10billion “earmarked for special services,” adding that it was handed in cash to Mr S. A. Salihu, a director of finance and administration at the Office of the NSA. “The governor of CBN granted this request and delivered the sum to Salisu as instructed by Dasuki. Upon receipt of the said sum, Salisu handed over this money to his boss, Dasuki, in 11 suitcases. “Dasuki in grand conspiracy with the first defendant (Dudafa) handed over the money to the first defendant. “In the course of his service as the Special Assistant to the former President on Domestic Affairs, the first defendant abused his officer by corruptly enriching himself,” the deponent said.

According to the commission, Dudafa also allegedly deposited “various huge sums of US dollars in cash” in the companies’ accounts. “In a bid to disguise and conceal the proceeds of his unlawful activities, the fourth to seventh applicants (the companies) were procured mainly to retain the proceeds of the first defendant’s unlawful activities.” “The fourth to seventh applicants each opened an account with Skye Bank Plc,” the deponent said in the counter-affidavit. EFCC said those who pleaded guilty on the companies’ behalf were actually their directors, namely Friday Davis, Agbor Baro, Bioghowori Fredrick and Taiwo Ebenezer. According to the commission, after prosecuting counsel Rotimi Oyedepo reviewed the case following the companies’ plea, the judge asked the representatives if they were in agreement with the facts.

“The representatives who are directors of the applicants admitted unequivocally that they agreed with facts reviewed by the prosecution. “Upon a calm reflection of the evidence led by the prosecution against the fourth to seventh defendants/applicants and the pleas of their directors who represented them, this Honourable Court found the applicants guilty and  convicted them as charged,” the commission said. EFCC said the companies’ application was an abuse of court process and was filed in bad faith, adding that the court had become functus officio (cannot re-open the case). The prosecution said the companies filed a Notice of Contention at the Court of Appeal in which they sought an order varying the guilty plea, but it was struck out. EFCC said the companies were yet to appeal against the Court of Appeal judgment. “The conviction of the fourth to seventh defendants did not occasion any miscarriage of justice to the applicants or any party in this proceeding,” EFCC said.

Sport: Kane treble shatters Premier League goal record | Vibes On Heat

Harry Kane set a new record for the most Premier League goals in a year and will finish as Europe’s leading scorer for 2017 after the Tottenham Hotspur forward hit a hat-trick in his side’s 5-2 rout of Southampton on Tuesday. Tottenham Hotspur’s English striker Harry Kane reacts after missing a chance during the English Premier League football match between Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton at Wembley Stadium in London, on December 26, 2017. / AFP PHOTO Kane’s 22nd-minute header at Wembley was his 37th goal of the year, moving him past Alan Shearer’s previous Premier League record, which was set when he played for Blackburn Rovers in 1995.

But Kane wasn’t happy to settle for that milestone and he scored twice more to claim his eighth treble of the year. His second goal took him to 55 for club and country in 2017 — lifting him above Barcelona’s Lionel Messi to become Europe’s top-scorer over the last 12 months in the five major countries (England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France). Messi, who has 54 goals this year, can’t catch Kane as Barcelona don’t play again until 2018. Kane admitted he was keen to break Shearer’s record after he moved level with the former England star with a hat-trick in Tottenham’s win at Burnley on Saturday. The 24-year-old reached his landmark 37th goal in 36 league appearances, while Shearer played 42 times when he set the old record with 36 goals. Shearer was quick to congratulate Kane, tweeting: “You’ve had a magnificent 2017 @HKane. You deserve to hold the record of most @premierleague goals in a calendar year. Well done and keep up the good work.” Other high-scoring Premier League stars over a calendar year include Robin van Persie, who notched 35 for Arsenal in 2011, and Thierry Henry, who struck 34 times for Arsenal in 2004.

Kane’s heroics were the highlight of a memorable Boxing Day for Tottenham as Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min also got on the scoresheet. Southampton, without want-away defender Virgil van Dijk, had escaped early on with Kane and Eric Dier coming close before the opening goal. – Historic – Danny Rose was tripped on the edge of Southampton’s box and Christian Eriksen’s dangerous free-kick saw Kane head home from close-range for the historic moment. Those celebrations threatened to be cut short within 60 seconds. Sofiane Boufal’s shot was pushed away by Hugo Lloris but the Frenchman misjudged Rose’s cushioned header back. The Tottenham goalkeeper was saved by the post as the ball stayed out and a comical own goal was narrowly averted. Tottenham haven’t lost a league game in which they scored first since November 2016 and they doubled their lead in the 38th minute. It was all too easy as a long spell of possession saw Alli free Son and his cross was diverted home by Kane.

Southampton’s Mario Lemina rattled the crossbar, but Alli ensured the contest was all over in the 49th minute, showing quick feet to curl home past Forster. Then it was the turn of Son to get on the scoresheet, the South Korean collecting Alli’s perfectly-weighted pass to fire beyond Forster after another quick counter-attack. Under-pressure Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino is facing calls for his head and his team’s second-half goals were little consolation. Boufal scored in the 64th minute, with Serge Aurier and then Lloris guilty as the Moroccan’s shot squirmed in. Normal service was resumed three minutes later when Kane collected Alli’s pass to chip home for the best goal of the match. Saints substitute Dusan Tadic had the final say with a goal in the 82nd minute, but nothing could take the spotlight away from Kane.

News: Boxing Day shoppers queue from before dawn — only to find no sales | Vibes Om Heat

Image result for Boxing Day shoppers
The Boxing Day sales are famous — so famous in fact that hundreds of shoppers have lined up overnight at some stores only to find no discounts on offer.
Bleary-eyed and clutching coffees, the people queueing outside one upmarket fashion store on Sydney's Pitt Street began arriving before dawn and formed a line stretching 200m.
But when the doors finally opened at 8:00am, the eager shoppers rushed in only to find there were no discounts.
Not that it seems to have driven the crowds away, as people kept lining up just for the tradition of it.
Over at the major department stores, where discounts of up to 50 per cent were being offered, the first eager shoppers started arriving at 9:00pm on Christmas Day.
It's all part of the fun, they said:
"I got here at 3.45am, which is a bit late actually. It's our Boxing Day tradition, so we've been coming for the last five years. So I'm really excited to get some sales."
"I got here at 4 o'clock, this is my first time here, it's good. This is like a bucket list, tick the bucket list and do it."
"I have a list, actually, I've been working on it for a few months: a suit, leather jacket, blazer, some shoes, some jeans, some casual wear."
"I'm a little bit tired, a bit sleepy. I've got work … but I reckon I can make it. It's the physical thrill."
Retailers are expected to bring in about $2.3 billion in the Boxing Day sales period, and close to $18 billion in the three weeks after.
It's a boom for bricks-and-mortar outlets who have to compete against online shopping, especially since the arrival of Amazon in Australia this month.
But many shoppers flocking to the sales say they still prefer the retail experience.
"I like seeing it in retail and trying things on as opposed to online, and I think it's better for retail."
"I like the energy of the crowds, it's actually lots of fun. People are great to be around in the morning, they're always very happy and friendly."
"If you don't come in today you'll miss out. You'll miss out on size, the colour, so you've got to be in today."
Australian Retailers Association executive director Russell Zimmerman said the crowds were building in Sydney and Melbourne, in particular.
"We're expecting some line-ups at some of the stores in the near future, so things are looking pretty positive at the moment," he said.
"I'm going to say to people, 'Be prepared to wait — retailers can only put so much staff on'.
"You might have to line up to pay or line up to get service. Be prepared to do it and be nice to other people, because everybody wants to enjoy it."

Boxing Day: Labour criticises Boxing Day rail shutdown despite Tory promises | Vibes On Heat

Andy McDonald, shadow transport secretary, criticises Conservatives after analysis finds only three out of 29 rail franchises will be running services
Image result for Labour criticises Boxing Day rail shutdown despite Tory promises
Labour has criticised the government’s failure to improve rail services on Boxing Day, despite promises to transform the service when the Conservatives were in opposition.
An analysis of rail franchises shows that this year, only three out of 29 will be running any form of services, and those that are operating will be severely limited. It means thousands of families travelling home after Christmas and football fans going to Boxing Day matches will have little option other than travelling by road.
Andy McDonald, shadow transport secretary, said: “In opposition the Tories attacked the Boxing Day rail shutdown. They’ve now had more than seven years to do something about it but a failure to properly manage and maintain our rail network means more delays and fewer services. The Tory hypocrisy on this issue is astounding.”
In 2008 the then shadow transport secretary Stephen Hammond, Tory MP for Wimbledon, called for an increase in rail services the day after Christmas Day.
“Thousands of families travel the length and breadth of the country to visit relatives and loved ones on Boxing Day. But yet again this year the railways will grind to a halt, forcing people onto gridlocked motorways.
“Labour just do not get how important the railway is to people at Christmas time. By allowing the railway to close so completely on Boxing Day, Labour are condemning sports fans, and families trying to celebrate the Christmas period together, to misery on our clogged up motorways,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
Of the 29 rail franchises, only three – Chiltern Railways, Merseyrail and ScotRail – are operating any services, according to National Rail Enquiries data.
A Department for Transport spokeswoman said train services do not generally operate on Boxing Day in England and Wales due to lack of demand.
“This allows valuable maintenance and improvement work to take place to improve services for passengers.
“Franchises can operate Boxing Day services on a commercial basis subject to agreement with Network Rail,” she said.

Xmas: The Story Behind 'The Christmas Song' | Vibes On Heat

In 1946, Nat King Cole became the first recording artist to wrap his lush vocals around what would become a standard of the holiday season, "The Christmas Song." But that song was written by a different crooner: Mel Tormé.

NPR's Noel King spoke with Mel Tormé's youngest son, James — an accomplished jazz singer himself — to get the story behind the creation of this Christmas classic.
According to James, it was on a hot, oppressive summer day in 1945 that his father, Mel, went over the house of one of his writing partners, Bob Wells.

"Wells was nowhere to be seen," James says, "But there was a spiral pad at the piano. There were four lines scribbled down on it in pencil."
Those four lines were: "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire / Jack Frost nipping at your nose / Yuletide carols being sung by a choir / And folks dressed up like Eskimos."

When Bob Wells eventually appeared, he told Mel that he had been trying to do everything to cool down on that hot day. Wells said, "I thought that maybe if I could just write down a few lines of wintry verse, I could physiologically get an edge over this heat."

Forty-five minutes later, the lyrics of what would be "The Christmas Song" were finished.
Click the audio link to hear how Tormé and Wells got "The Christmas Song" in the hands of Nat King Cole, how the song has evolved over the past 70 years and what James Tormé has learned from his father's legacy.

News: Smelling Your Partner’s Farts Will Make You Live Longer, Scientists Research Reveals | Vibes On Heat

According to Unilad No matter whether you like it or not, according to scientists, smelling your partner’s farts will amazingly make you live longer. Yes you read that right, a research team at the University of Exeter have discovered it is good for you to inhale your partner’s stinky farts as the gases in them can combat diseases.
So if you catch your partner eyeing you up weirdly tonight in bed, just sitting there waiting, you know why.
he study, published in the journal Medicinal Chemistry Communications, analysed the impact of the gas hydrogen sulfide which humans produce in small amounts.
Although it was found to be noxious in large doses, researchers discovered that cellular exposure to small amounts of the gas can prevent mitochondrial damage which has many health implications.
One of the researchers, Dr. Mark Wood, said:
Although hydrogen sulfide is well known as a pungent, foul-smelling gas in rotten eggs and flatulence, it is naturally produced in the body and could in fact be a healthcare hero.
Surprisingly the gas in farts can actually reduce the risk of several life threatening illnesses including cancer, stroke and heart attacks.
According to researchers, it has also been proven to prevent arthritis and dementia in old age.

Universal Pictures
Creating a new compound know as AP39, the team at the University believe this can hold the key to future therapies as it ensures that the body retains and produces the right amount of hydrogen sulfide.
Researchers claim that this compound can be delivered to targeted cells in the body and placed inside.
Professor Matt Whiteman, from the university’s medical school, added:
When cells become stressed by disease, they draw in enzymes to generate minute quantities of hydrogen sulfide.
This keeps the mitochondria ticking over and allows cells to live. If this doesn’t happen, the cells die and lose the ability to regulate survival and control inflammation.
We have exploited this natural process by making a compound, called AP39, which slowly delivers very small amounts of this gas specifically to the mitochondria.
Our results indicate that if stressed cells are treated with AP39, mitochondria are protected and cells stay alive.
University of Exeter
According to the scientists the research has shown that if AP39 is administered, in models of cardiovascular disease 80 percent of the heart’s mitochondria cells survive under highly destructive conditions.
Early results also that show that AP39 can help to lower high blood pressure and also dramatically improve the chances of survival after a heart attack by slowing the heartbeat making it more efficient.
The team are now working towards testing the compound in humans.
University of Exeter
This research is interesting but of course in its early stages with no real conclusions being made.
However, next time your partner has a go at your for farting, just tell them you are doing it out of the kindness of your heart.

Empowering the youth via Peace Corps of Nigeria | Vibes On Heat

BY GIDADO SHUAIB
Before the recent altercation between the Nigerian Police and the Peace Corps of Nigeria over the legality or constitutionality of the establishment of the latter as an organisation, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung had granted me an interview at a function in London early this year during my studies.
Mr. Dalung told me that the Peace Corps, in different countries, is a globally recognised  non-governmental and youth-based organization which focuses on working with the youth in exploring and enhancing their potentials for greatness towards harnessing and redirecting their productive energies for national development.
The Minister disclosed that since the law establishing the Peace Corps in Nigeria had been passed into law by the National Assembly, he anticipated a healthy collaboration and supervisory oversight of Ministry of youth on its activities. He said peace corps scheme is fashioned around a volunteer corps in some countries where young people serve their country by acquiring experiences to be able to fit into the system.
One of the challenging job requirement in Nigeria is the demand for years of working experiences where some employers would insist on at least three to four years of working experience before hiring a graduate. Therefore, the youth, upon graduation, become unemployable due to the discriminatory requirements.
The peace corps intends to address the challenge of youth unemployment by engaging young graduates into working environments where they could gain the basic experiences. It is only through selected services that they can acquire the necessary skills and experiences to fit into available jobs.
Dalung also raised his concern over those stringent and seeming impossible requirements. He said “I am a person not disposed to the requirement of experiences imposed on young people while seeking for jobs because the headmaster was once a schoolboy before becoming a teacher. There must be a take-off point in life.”
Surprisingly, the Peace Corps of Nigeria has been in existence for over a decade as a non-governmental organization but ineffective due to stiff resistance and rejection from some security agencies who see PCN as a threat to their operations.
The constant attacks on Nigerian Peace Corps from other security agencies, notably the Police have affected the anticipated engagements of 500,000 teeming youth. Recently, the National Commandant of the Corps, Dickson Akoh, was almost stripped naked by the police in public glare.
The headquarters of the organisation in Abuja was also sealed by men of the Police Force after raiding the premises and arrested the commandant and 49 others. The action was despite a directive of Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, who declared the actions of the police as illegal, unconstitutional and ordered that the office be unsealed immediately.
Several interventions of spirited organisation for the police to see the reason to allow the PCN be have not been successful. Recently some youth-based groups under the auspices of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) forced open the headquarters of the corps, but yet the policemen were adamant.
However, while the police are still harassing and intimidating members of PCN, the United Nations has granted seven slots to the Officers of the Peace Corps to attend and participate in major United Nations meetings and conferences, including that of the General Assembly.
Rather than addressing the security challenges of highway kidnappings, herdsmen attacks and armed robbery, the police force is chasing shadow by undermining the activities of an organisation that would address unemployment and insecurity. This impunity must stop.
It is necessary to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to assent the bill of the Peace Corps of Nigeria to enable the organisation to commence its operations in earnest. There are a lot of benefits derivable from the commencement of operation of the Nigerian version of Peace Corps if the bill becomes law.
Mr. Dalung had alluded to the fact that the law establishing the PCN would come to effect when he said that “I’m confident that being a father figure who is passionate about youth development, President Muhammadu Buhari will assent to the bill that will set the tone for another platform of engagement for young people into rendering services to the country through the peace corps of Nigeria..”
Can Mr. President do the needful on the Peace Corps of Nigeria now?

The Rise And Fall Of Buhari | Vibes On Heat

Image may contain: one or more people

This write up coming from the London Economist, a magazine that endorsed Buhari for President in 2015, is perhaps the most significant, objective, unbiased, unsentimental and deeply incisive analysis of the policies and actions of this president so far. The facts are unimpeachable by any objective mind.
.
The Unprecedented Level of Patience Shown to Buhari---the ECONOMICS

Nigerians have never shown such level of patience and tolerance towards any of their past leaders for his record and strange policies as that shown to their current leader, Muhammadu Buhari – a former military dictator now self-confessed democrat who said he came to fight corruption.
Buhari, 75, is being plagued with failures across every single sector in the economy, the like as has never been seen before. Less than a year into office, the economy plummeted into recession, an economy which had till then grown at an average rate of 7% in previous years (2011-2014).
.
The nation’s currency lost 70% of its value, unemployment rose from 6.5 to 26%, commodity prices tripled across many quarters and the state-regulated premium motor spirit prices were hiked by 67% without practically anybody batting an eye.
.
There have been stern opposition to his policies however and to his very personality as well, notably in the South East and South- South regions in the country as they are called, where he both received less than 5% of the votes cast at the last Presidential election and where he has always been sternly unpopular for his history of bigotry against the people, perceived incompetence and dictatorial tendencies.
.
But in many other regions across the country the people have rather resolved to suffer patiently, drawing up excuses for him at will, blaming everyone including his hundreds of political appointees, anything and anybody but never the man himself.
.
Buhari’s party, the APC, promised Nigerians unprecedented swiping changes in government and the eviction of all corrupt individuals.
.
One possible explanation for this could be his party’s hope narrative in the 2015 General election where citizens were promised an unprecedented crackdown on corruption and the abolition of all government waste by a man whose financial worth they declared to have been less than N30million ($150,000 then), a historical low for a former top official in the country and most especially a former leader.
.
In a country plagued by acute corruption problems and with the unremitted crude oil revenue scandal of 2014 still fresh in the people’s minds, many were eager for an abrupt change, the like as never been seen before. He was seen an army general, already experienced in government, with a great strength of will, tough to take on the nation’s cabal of hardened criminals. He promised to appoint only technocrats to head the country’s departments and to see out the lingering Boko Haram insurgency from the warfront. For a nation lacking basic amenities such as power supply in spite of its huge energy resources and with the lingering insurgency crises, the choice seemed easy to many- the general with integrity was the man for the country.
.
Talk was cheap then but now reality has taken its course. His earliest opponents pointed out to his track record and not to his speech, noting that the last time Nigeria fell into dismal failure, currency woes and commodity shortages was when he had seized power as a military general in 1983 and stating that the facts of that record contradicted the poems of his image brokers.
.
Many however just wanted “change” as it was then called and so voted the General and sat to wait for the sung promises. But from the onset of his government, the course was as his critics had predefined: Incompetency, bigotry and dictatorial tendencies plaguing the country.
.
He ignored the newly born genocide in the middle belt of the country perpetuated by the Fulani herdsmen of his kindred against the Christian communities in Benue, Plateau and later on Kaduna. He breached the Central Bank’s 2007 Act of Independence, telling it to suspend forex disbursements to steel importers and other manufacturing sectors in a bid to defend the Naira, a disastrous action which kick-started a spiral of recession.
.
He took 3 months to appoint his Chief of Staff, 6 months to appoint a cabinet and now 23 months and yet counting to appoint heads of agencies and board members he was so eager to fire upon his assumption into office and rose import duties on the most basic of commodities in a bid to raise government revenue.
.
And as for the corruption fight, the facts on ground do not show any one at all.
.
Apart from a few officials harassed or imprisoned without court order, the country is yet to witness the first victim of the said campaign at the court stands.
.
Government waste is on the rise, officials publicly caught in graft acts were swiftly excused, the 2016 Budget year passed without implementation and most worrisome, the Central Bank’s foreign reserves were being shared among unknown Bureau De Change operators at variable rates at the detriment of critical manufacturing, business and banking sectors.
.
The government continues to praise itself but the people seem to be increasingly tired of the paraded self-righteousness.
.
The President’s recent illness was greeted with cheers by many. Many are just tired of the government.
.
But the remarkable level of patience shown so far has been unprecedented and many a times the general reactions towards acts of constitutional violations was one of calmness or insensitivity.
.
If the Change narrative of the 2015 election and the songs of man of integrity are to account for this, then Nigerians may have just certified themselves on the world map as a nation easy to fool with propaganda. An adult should be judged on his track record not on his tongue.
